I Like Winter

Everyone’s shouting “Beach day, finally!” Posting sunsets, drinks, and tanned selfies. I’m in the corner melting like ice cream, Fan in my face, living the wrong dream. They say, “Come swim, the water’s perfect!” I’m like, “No thanks, I already boiled.” Sand in my shoes, my makeup sliding, Mosquitoes think I’m their private island. Everyone likes summer, but I like winter, You can keep your sunburn souvenir. Give me snow and socks and steamy windows, Hot chocolate kisses in my ear. You can have your beaches, I’ll take blankets, I wanna see my breath in frosty air. Everyone likes summer, but I like winter— That’s my season, I don’t care. They’re buying shorts in neon colors, I’m saving memes of giant scarves. They dream of yachts and orange cocktails, I dream of coats the size of small cars. Final Chorus Everyone likes summer, but I like winter, You can keep your sunscreen in the sand. Give me boots that squeak on snowy sidewalks, Frozen fingers wrapped inside your hand. You can have July in all its glitter, I’ll be waiting where the cold winds are. Everyone likes summer, but I like winter— Meet me there, under a midnight star.
