The short version
This site has no advertising, no analytics service and no tracking cookies. It sets no cookies at all. Nothing you do here is sold, shared for advertising, or used to build a profile of you.
Visits
Visits are counted on the server. For each page view the site records the time, which page was asked for, the website you arrived from, whether the request looked like a bot, and a short code standing in for the visitor.
That code is the part worth explaining. It is made by hashing your IP address and browser together with a secret value and the current date. The IP address and browser string are used to make the code and are then discarded — neither is written down. Because the date is mixed in, the same visitor is a different code tomorrow, so the records cannot be joined up into a history of one person. Because the secret is secret, the codes cannot be worked backwards into IP addresses.
These counts exist so I know whether anyone is reading. They are never shown on the site and never leave the server.
The contact form
If you write to me, the form sends your name, your email address and your message to my mailbox, and keeps a copy on the server so a message is not lost if mail delivery fails. That is the whole purpose: to read your message and reply to it. Your address is not added to any mailing list.
Ask me and I will delete your message and my copy of it. Use the contact form.
Other companies
Two things on this site involve someone else, and both are worth being plain about.
Fonts. The typefaces are served by Google Fonts. Loading them means your browser asks Google for the files, and that request carries your IP address and which browser you use, as any request to any server does. Google states these requests are not used to profile you, but the request is still made, and it is made by your browser rather than by me.
Links out. Buttons here lead to Spotify, Apple Music and YouTube Music, and videos open on YouTube. Nothing from those services runs on this site — no embedded player, no script, no cookie — so they learn nothing about you until you choose to follow a link. Once you do, you are on their service and their privacy policy applies, not this one.
What is not here
No Google Analytics or similar. No advertising pixel from any network. No cookie banner, because there are no cookies to ask about. No account, no login, no newsletter signup. No comment system. Nothing on this site tries to recognise you when you come back.
Your rights
You can ask what I hold about you, ask for it to be corrected or deleted, and object to it being held at all. Use the contact form and I will deal with it. In practice the only thing here that could be about you is a message you sent me, since the visit records are not tied to a person.
Deleting your data
You can ask for data about you to be deleted at any time. How to do it, and what there actually is to delete, are on the deleting your data page.
Changes
If what the site does changes, this page changes with it. The date at the top is when it was last altered.
